Deep into lockdown during the summer of 2020, boredom and isolation had truly got to all of us. So, in a pink wig and killer heels, David lay in a puddle to recreate Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s Rain On Me to bring some much needed joy to the queer community.
HOMOPARODY was born. With his poor husband, Peter, behind the camera (but sometimes roped in as a supporting role), more parodies were released over the next year, with HOMOPARODY quickly collecting friends from the LGBTQ+ community in south-west London to join the fun.
2 years later and we filmed our first professionally produced parody music video, Alejandro (more Gaga, naturally), for charity, raising over £2,000 for London Friend. After our viral success, we were booked for the main stage at Pride in London, performing to over 10,000 people. More regional prides and private event bookings quickly followed, including a 20 week residency at Circa Embankment.
At the start of 2023, we launched our weekly, all-ability queer dance class, providing a safe space for LGBTQ+ people to express themselves freely, without judgment or fear of exclusion. Today, we’re proud to be providing regular work for talented LGBTQ+ performers and creatives and to have built a thriving community with over 100 members. Our queer collective has been built organically with an ethos of love, inclusion and empowerment and we can’t wait to see where the future takes us as we spread positive queer love along
